about

In 2020, I somehow stumbled upon a scarcely viewed video on YouTube of two people doing a cover of the song "Friends / Endless Summer" by the now defunct Japanese punk band Going Steady. I immediately searched for the original song and fell in love with it. As time went on, I grew more and more interested with this band and the musical scene that they were a part of. As I listened to the band, their styles started to creep into my own songwriting. Songs that spoke just as much about fleeting young love as they did the desire to rebel against the chains of society. I wrote the song "Come Back at Once" in early 2021, but it was left on the back burner until about a year later, some time after I released "Cranium Shaker." I continued to write more songs in an effort to echo the sentiments of the early Seishun Punk scene in which Going Steady made their mark. With these songs, "Love & Youth" began to form.
I soon realized, however, that I could not do this alone. I called up Drew (Bill), a friend and the best drummer I knew, to help record the album, making the then LD a group effort, rather than a solo project like it was previously. The recording sessions for the album were broken up over multiple months, and in September 2022, "Love & Youth" was released.
The album features Skeleton Boy and Sentimental Okada, two longtime friends and insanely talented musicans. Skeleton Boy was featured on "Cranium Shaker," so I knew I had to have them on the album (and all other albums to come in the future). They lend their vocals to track 2, "Call To Arms," creating the back and forth screaming on the song.
I discovered Sentimental Okada through a guitar cover he made of a Going Steady song, and his voice was exactly what I needed to complete the album. He is equally able to create a soft, longing ballad through "Okada's Track" as he is able to create a hard hitting piano-rap verse on "No Music No Life."
With that said, I hope you enjoy this rerelease of "Love & Youth" under the Overlöded name! More music to come!
